| Most of us became sucked into the world of Fushigi yuugi through the anime. Beautiful animation, the series follows the magna almost exactly (a few things omitted) Just like the manga, the anime follows middle school student Miaka Yuki, who one day at the libary finds an old book, almost by fate, and becomes sucked into the pages and finds herself in ancient China. And almost as quickly as she finds herself in the books, she is don the role of Priestess of Suzaku: one of the four gods. Charged with the duty of collecting all seven Seishi in order to summon Suzkau, and be granted three wishes. Of course this wouldnt be a shoujo series if there wasnt love, and heartache. Miaka must battle for the love of Tamahome, and her best Friend Yui, who has become the priestess of Seiryuu, and her enemy. Fushigi Yuugi began airing on Japanese TV back on April 06, 1995, and is a total of 52 episdoes long. In addition, there have been three OVA"S made that follow where the orginal series left off. The first ova is only 3 episodes long and takes place some time between the end of the original series, and Ova 2. Ova 1 was made purely for the anime, and has nothing to do with the orginal manga story line. Ova 2 is 6 episodes long, and follows the second half of the manga. Ova 3 eikouden, is based off of the FY novels of the same name, which takes place 10 years after the orginial story, and follows Mayo a young girl who as a crush on Taka, and goes inside the book to espcape her life and hopes to get her happy tale ending ( with taka of course).
