Yui
Yui the priestess of seiryuu. A role that she did not
readily embrace. Yui Hong and miaka Yuki are
bests of friends, well were best friends, together
since kindergarten. But then one day the world as
she knew it gets turned upside down. on the first
journey into the book miaka and yui realized that
they were in a land they have never been before,
ancient china. And just as the red light that had
sent them there, it had sent yui back to their home
world, leaving miaka stranded behind in the book.
Not knowing what to do or how it happened, yui
realized that miaka was still trapped inside the
other world, and stayed with her friend, worlds
apart hoping that an answer would make itself
known. But when the opportunity did present itself,
there was a price to pay in exchange for her
friend. unknowing to miaka, and yui,  when miaka
was sent home from the book world, yui was sent in.
but this time it wasnt a read light that engulfed the
girl, but rather a blue one. when yui arrived back
in the book world it wasnt anything like it was
before. landing in a slum district of the kutou
empire yui is not greeted with open arms. street
thugs looking for a good time notice this young and
lost girl wearing weird and exotic clothing. they
attack her despite her desperate attempt to
escape, and her pleas for miaka to help her. yui
passes out during her attack, only waking up
thinking the worst and tries to take her own life
name: yui hongo
priestess of seiryuu
age: 15 (10/26)
three months yui waits for miaka, and had wondered why she hadnt saved
her . All awhile the blond hair blue eyed seishi Nakago stayed by her side
feeding her tales of betrayal. Yui didnt believe that her best friend would
betray, nor forget about her, but as time went on yui's faith began to
waiver. But then during another day at this weird nightmare world, yui
found herself gazing upon the face of a familiar. Miaka didnt betray her, all
that Nakago said wasnt true,  Her faith in her friend couldnt be any
stronger. The three long months of waiting werent in vain, she was with her
best friend now, and they were going to go home. All of her doubts were
reassured.
During a minor scuffle Nakago got ahold of Konan's universe of the four gods
scroll and before the two of them could leave they would have to get it back.
Certain that Nakago would listen to her Yui went to retrieve the scroll asking
miaka and Tamahome to wait for her. But when she came back, scroll in hand
yui had over heard miaka telling tamahome the reason why she returned to
the book world was to be with him. Stunned Yui's heart began to break. she
thought miaka came back for her. What about the promises of going to high
school together, what about being best friends? Was all that Nakago said
true? enraged yui donned the role of priestess of seriyuu and became miaka's
enemy.
For me at the surface yui didnt really seem like an ideal priestess, just the
catalyst for the stories going power. Another pawn in Nakago games, you
name it, Yui just didnt seem like a stand alone priestess. Before and after he
time in the book yui is a sweet girl caring and kind. Nothing like her seishi,
whom are out only for personal gain. But the more I thought about it, I
realized that she really is the ideal priestess for the seiryuu party. Just as
miaka's character was molded around the part as suzaku no miko, as was yui
for seiryuu.
Each priestess has a central theme with her seishi. For Miaka it was love. All
of her seishi had warm caring hearts, And always put others before
themselves. For Takiko, it was loneliness, and the desire to be needed. each
of her seishi were isolated and were alone when she first met them. And
stemming from her desire to be needed she was able to reach out to them
and connect. But for Yui and the seiryuu seishi, its how the deal with anger.
A motto that fits them to a "T" would be: Dont get mad get even. All of yui's
seishi and even herself has a vengeful side. (which is the most prominent).
This even extends to the way their empires regard their priestess and seishi:
Konan embraces their priestess and seshi, and are glad that they are around,
despite the fact that they only come when the country is about to collapse
(love) Hokkan rejects their seishi (causing loneliness, and isolation)). Kutou
destroyed theirs (causing resentment) through the constant at war status, so
it would be fitting to have a priestess so like themselves.
here you can find the character descriptions for the seven seishi of
seiryuu. this is your last chance to turn back. MAJOR SPOILERS are in
these descriptions. I have held nothing back. If you have not and seen or
read the series in its entirety you will be spoiled. Last warning ... turn
back while you still can.
