Yuu Watase is a Japanese shoujo (girls) manga artist. She was born on March 5th 1970 in Osaka, Japan. Her debut title was Pajama de ojama (an Intrusion in Pajamas) in 1989, issue 3 of sho-comi, debuting at the age of 19! (thats pretty young) Since that time, Watase has made many hit series, as well as many one shot (short) stories. In 1998 Watase received the Shogakukan Manga Award for the dark and mysterious series Ayashi no ceres (Ceres celestial legend)
Watase is known best by her fans and in the shoujo community for being a bishon artist, as all her series are filled with beautiful male characters. No series is better known for this than Watase's most famous Fushigi yuugi. Where the main seven characters of suzaku are all good looking guys.
One of Watase's dreams/ambitions was to make a shonen (boys) manga. this must have stemmed from the mangaka in which Watase inspired from, Rumiko Takahashi (who created popular series such as ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha ) For those of you who have read some of Watase's earlier works you can see the similarities to that of Rumiko Takahashi's. That dream was realized mid 2008 with Watase's first Shonen manga series Arata Kangatari. |
