Miaka Yuki along with her best friend Yui Hongo go to the library to return some books only to have their lives changed forever. Drawn to a mysterious book containing an ancient tale, Miaka and Yui, are magically transported into a mysterious world based in ancient china. Miaka becomes charged with duties of Priestess of Suzaku and must gather all seven warriors and summon the sacared beast in order to make three wishes, and hopefully be able to get back home. As told by the ancient scroll a young maiden from another world would appear when the country is on the brink of collapase. And just as the priestess of Suzaku appears, so does the Priestess of Seiryuu, who will become Miaka's mortal enemy.
Fushigi Yuugi is Watase's most popular series, and has become a hit anime series, as well as releasing several OVA's (orginial video animation) and just as recently as 2008 a Video game for the Playstation 2 system. While the series ended a decade ago, its still going strong!
