name: Namame seishi: Namame mark location: back of head meaning: wall age: unknown

Namame is hands down the cutest
character in the GK bunch. Despite the
fact that he is made of stone he warms
our hearts, as well as his fellow seishi's.
Namame is almost child-like in his
innocents, and behavior, as he mimics
the actions of this fellow group members
to better understand the world around
him. Born of the Seimei stone, Namame
came to life in a cruel world, in which no
one understood him, or rather wouldnt
give him the chance to be accepted.

Upon being born from the earth, in a place where people would come to pay
their respects to the dead, he tried to make contact with local villagers who
were paying homage to their lost loved ones, but they were only to be
frightened away by Namame. After fastening himself to look more like the
statues that the people worshiped, and thus more human like, he traveled to
the nearest village only to be out casted and attacked until he left. Due to
Namame being unable to talk, the villagers are understandably frighted of
this Walking statue and did what they could to protect themselves, and their
families. Namame, misunderstood leaves the village and goes back, to live an
existence of solitude. Namame would have spent his entire life alone, if not
for the young, but wise, priestess Anruu, who has come to rescue him from
his loneliness. Namame only see humans as a negative beings that only bring
him pain. So to defend himself, he attacks the young girl with stones, but she
stands firm and takes the attacks. She sits and waits for Namame to open up
to her, and as the season changes to winter, Anruu does not change her
resolve, and waits for Namame to accept her. All Namame has ever wanted
he found in Priestess Anruu, someone who accepts him for him.
Namame is one of Takiko's biggest challenges in the series, as in order to
accept Namame, she must first be able to accept herself. Namame does not
speak, at least not in a conventional sense. Namame can talk to those who has
opened their mind to him, and the world around them, which Takiko is
struggling to do. Namame was able to speak to Priestess Anruu, and has only
spoken a few words to Takiko, which doesnt happen until volume 6 of the
manga (thats an awful long time)
The People of Hokkan have long used rocks and stones for prophecies, as
they feel these things have immense spiritual powers. The people of Hokkan
can be viewed as very superstitious, But with this background in mind, it
makes Namame a very powerful and important character for the people who
worship Genbu, and for those of us reading the story, intertwining folk lore
(since not only do the people of Hokkan worship stones, but so did many
ancient societies in reality) gives the story a richer feeling, and making
Namame the center of this.
While Namame may be mute, and you cant really take him to many social
functions without out getting a funky look from someone, and he may prove
to be Takiko's hardest challenge to overcome (Uruki was a cake walk
compared to our stone friend). he is essentially for lack of better words,
something we should all come to have in our lives, someone that will allow us
to not only accept ourselves, but others as well unconditionally.
