Fushigi yuugi genbu kadien, the prequel to the infamous Fushigi yuugi series began its journey in the japanese manga magazine sho-comi, back in 2003. from 2004 to 2008 genbu kaiden was then released in its own magazine called Yuu Watase's Fushigi Yuugi Perfect World Magazine. After issue 14 of the perfect world magazine was released, it was announced that the magazine would be discontinued, and future chapters of Genbu kaiden will then be released in Flowers magazine. New chapters are expected to be released in spring 2010, after a two year break.
The North american version is currently being released by Viz.
